Women Cultural Agents illuminate the hidden lineage of women in art by recovering the lives and works of artists who were erased, ignored, marginalized, or abused throughout history. In this project, each contemporary woman artist is paired with a woman artist in art history from anywhere in the world. She selects one historical artwork and creates a new piece in her own voice, style, and medium.

This initiative restores visibility to women artists of the past while simultaneously elevating contemporary women artists and their creative contributions. It is both a recovery of history and a celebration of the women shaping art today.

Tribute to 100 Women Artists in Art History

Dunedin Fine Art Center

$500 100WAAH Award 2024

Contemporary women artists present original artworks created to honor the woman artist in history they are commemorating. Each artist engages in a dialogue across time: she studies the life and work of her historical counterpart—often a creator who was erased, marginalized, or subjected to violence—and responds with a new piece in her own style, medium, and vision.

Through these paired tributes, the project celebrates living artists while restoring visibility, dignity, and recognition to the women who shaped art history but were never fully acknowledged.
